1. Vocab Mastery Challenge

Vocabulary is the single most important thing to master for the PSLE Chinese exam. The vast majority of Paper 2 (MCQ, cloze passage, comprehension) test your ability to read and understand, which is determined by your vocab knowledge. Meanwhile, Oral & Compo test your active vocab, or words and phrases you can produce when speaking or writing. 

Based on our years of experience at helping thousands of students, if your child is scoring below 80 marks, mastering the 1000+ P4-P6 core words is one of the two most important low-hanging fruits to do. And after mastering these words, your child should reinforce the knowledge by seeing and speaking the words in sentences.

But it can be difficult to keep track of so many words.

 

 

That’s why we built a vocab tracker, to challenge students to master all 1000+ words & their corresponding sentences. Students can easily see their progress and how much more vocab they need to complete to be prepared for the PSLE. And to motivate kids further, parents can even provide custom rewards like more screen time or Roblox vouchers when their children have finished the Vocab challenge.

 

2. Captivating Tree Climbing Game to Revise Word Collocations (词语搭配)

Collocations or 词语搭配 is an extremely important yet underrated part of learning Chinese as it makes you sounds natural (e.g. 语感).

As a refresher, collocations are combinations of words that appear frequently together. For instance, the combination “heavy rain” sounds natural while “strong rain” is weird. Similarly, while both 增添 and 增加 mean to increase*, 增添气氛 is correct while 增加气氛 is wrong.

From a PSLE standpoint, collocations are important for Paper 2 Qn 3-6 and the cloze passage, and depending on the questions, can impact up to 10 marks. Not to mention the impact it has on oral & composition as it makes your speech and writing sound more natural.

From a language perspective, practising collocations is an efficient way of simultaneously reinforcing a new word while revising older words. For instance, consider the phrase 实现梦想 that often appears in PSLE (2021) and prelims. When you practise it, you are also simultaneously revising 实现 and 梦想, which is useful for the rest of the MCQ questions in Paper 2.

 

 

That’s why we created a fun Tree Climbing game to help students practise core P4-P6 词语搭配 efficiently. Not only does the tree game help you practise collocations and the underlying vocab in a fun manner, all mistakes are tracked so you can focus on the areas you don’t know and revise more efficiently. 

 

3. Tailored Learning: Level Selector for Daily Challenge & Speaking
