The concept of the camp is for kids to learn proper writing technique, get writing practise, and learn important AI skills that will help them in the future.

WAIT – AI IN A WRITING CAMP?

You might be wondering – what has AI got anything to do with compo writing? Is my child actually going to be writing anything or is the AI just going to generate everything (no, your child will handwrite every essay)?

The biggest problem about compo writing is most kids hate it – which child wants to be forced to attend a boring writing camp during the June holidays?

That’s where AI comes in – the Compo Writing X AI camp isn’t your grandmother’s boring writing camp, but a cool experience including creating a fully-voiced eBook with the power of AI.

Here’s how it works: your child writes an essay after learning proper writing techniques from our experienced teachers. Then, they use image-generative AI like Midjourney to create images to accompany the story. Lastly, they select the read-aloud they want using speech-to-text AI. Your child will be amazed as their writing comes to life in a whole new way!

And the best part? Your child can easily share their eBook with friends and family, showing off their newfound writing skills and creativity. Who ever said writing Chinese has to be boring?

It’s critical that kids learn how to use AI at a young age so they are well equipped to navigate this technology-driven world and stay ahead of the curve.

CAN YOU GO INTO MORE DETAIL ABOUT WHAT MY CHILD WILL BE LEARNING?

Getting better at compo writing is key to acing Chinese, but it’s also an area many kids tend to both struggle with and dislike. From experience, students struggle due to three main reasons: 1) lack of exposure to proper writing technique, 2) weak vocabulary, and 3) insufficient practice. That’s why we designed the Compo Writing X AI camp to tackle all three problems!

Each day, your child will be learning 好词佳句 (good phrases and idioms), writing techniques like how to structure the essay, and how to avoid losing easy marks. Not to mention getting tons of writing practise!

Day 1: Write an essay on what it means to live in a world with robots
Are robots good or bad? Unleash your child’s imagination as kids discuss and think critically about ways robots can help us! In addition, our principal Dan will personally teach kids how to use ChatGPT to improve their Chinese.

Day 2: Creative writing – My Space adventure
Ignite your child’s imagination as they plan out their own Space Adventure, and learn vocab and tips on how to properly write a descriptive essay!

Day 3: Experiential writing – How can we save the environment?
Another big issue for our children’s generation is the environment. Kids will get a chance to do hands-on activities to explore the importance of saving the environment and recycling, before compiling their ideas into an essay, From experience, this sort of experiential format is particularly effective at engaging kids!

Day 4: eBook creation with the power of AI
Combine different kinds of AI to create an engaging eBook. Your child will take a compo he or she wrote, create a cover picture using Midjourney, and then voice it using text-to-speech AI.

ONE MORE THING

Over four days, your child will get tons of writing practise, learn new vocab and writing techniques that will help them with their exams. But just like Rome wasn’t built in four days, if you want your child to truly transform their writing, he or she will need sustained help with writing techniques and good vocab.
